10 Best Vegan Day Trips from Lyon, France
Lyon is one of the best places in France to base yourself for day trips. Within one to three hours, you can reach alpine lakes, medieval villages, mountain cities, vineyard towns, and cultural destinations, many with surprisingly good vegan food scenes. Whether you prefer traveling by train or renting a car, these destinations are easy to visit and offer a wonderful mix of nature, culture, and food.
We recently stayed in Lyon for 10 days and were fortunate to take 3 different road trips, including one of our favorite places on earth, Annecy. Below is a list of some of the best day trips you can take from Lyon, France.
Important tips about Lyon and dining times
Please keep in mind that people in Lyon and the surrounding areas eat lunch very early. We live in Portugal, so we are used to lunch happening between 12:30-3:00 p.m. In Lyon, lunch is from 11:00-1:30 p.m. You need to keep this in mind while traveling through this area, especially since vegan restaurants aren’t plentiful, so if you want to eat lunch, plan on arriving right when lunch starts. Check Instagram or Google Maps for their hours. Restaurants typically open for lunch from 11:00-1:30 p.m. and are closed in the middle of the day and then reopen for dinner from 6-9 p.m. Also, make reservations for the more popular spots, esp for dinner.
