- Luxury + great location and price
- Amazing location + sustainable loft

Chiado area (VEGAN GUIDE TO LISBON)
Organi Chiado – this is an amazing vegan restaurant in Chiado (the main tourist area of Lisbon). Not only is Organi Chiado a sustainable restaurant, but also healthy as they procure mostly organic ingredients from local producers. Their food is extremely fresh and fulfilling and one of our favorites in Lisbon. Everything we have ordered from here has been nothing short of delicious.
Location: Calçada Nova de São Francisco 2, close to Chiado metro stop and Santa Justa Lift
Hot tip: Definitely save room for dessert! Their cheesecake is mouth-watering scrumptious!
Plant Base – this is a collective vegan restaurant that opened during the pandemic to help the vegan community/restaurant owners be able to continue operating their businesses. The menu includes offerings from several different entities so it’s a nice mix of different culinary cuisines, such as pizza, burgers, curries, tacos, etc.
Location: R. da Oliveira ao Carmo 9 (a short walk from Carmo Convent)
Hot tip: It’s so hard to choose what to eat with such a variety of choices so come prepared knowing what you want! Or go back several times so you can try it all.
AO26 now called 26 Vegan Food Project – this restaurant is stunning and the food matches the aesthetic. They are known for creating upscale traditional Portuguese food that’s vegan. This is also a great place for a romantic date.
Location: Rua Horta Seca 5
Hot tip: AO26 can be found on the app, Too Good To Go (an app to lessen food waste by finding a home for unsold/unused food) and you can get an enjoyable take-away meal for only 3.99€.
A Colmeia – super affordable daily lunch buffet menu. The price for 4 main items is 7€! Check out all the food we got for a mere 7€ a few weeks ago.
vegan sushi
Legumi Sushi – the first and only 100% plant-based sushi restaurant in Lisbon. The offerings are inventive, creative and mouth-wateringly delicious. The new location is also adorable.
Location: Rua Vicente Borga 75
Hot tip: The hours are a bit inconsistent. Check out their website for the latest info or call them.
KONG – this restaurant is in the perfect location, making it an easy place to eat while hitting all of the tourist hot spots. They are known for making traditional Portuguese and Brazilian cuisine that’s vegan, such as Francesinha and Bacalhau. My favorite item is the cauliflower wings.
Location: Rua do Corpo Santo 2
Hot tip: Walk around the Praça do Comércio after eating here or hang out near Cais do Sodré.
east chiado area/baixa
The Green Affair – the theme is green and they know how to keep the theme consistent. Both locations are gorgeously decorated and the food is delectable. Their lunch specials are a good deal and the ambience is divine.
Location: Saldanha: Av. Duque de Ávila 30 A, Chiado: R. Serpa Pinto 15A
Hot tip: The Chiado location is right in the middle of the tourist area and it’s a short walk to Carmo Convent and Largo do Chiado. The Saldanha location is more of a business district.
Manjerica – this restaurant is close to Rossio Square and Praca Figueira. This is a great spot for brunch with a set menu. They have pancakes, wraps, burgers, sandwiches and a plethora of tasty beverages.
Location: Rua João das Regras, Praça da Figueira 5-A
Hot tip: This restaurant is right in the middle of tourist central! You could walk around the plazas, walk to Praça do Comércio and/or walk to Castelo São Jorge.
alfama area
Al Sanpietrino (fka Horacio Trattoria) – this is considered one of the best vegan restaurants in Lisbon according to most local vegans in Lisbon. It’s handcrafted Italian food made fresh and with a lot of love. The chef (Alex) is passionate about the food he creates.
Location: Beço da Lapa 31, Alfama
Hot tip: Everything is delicious here, but you must try the Caprese salad! OMG!
GRAçA/SAO VICENTE AREA
Tataoim – this place is small, but adorable. The daily menu specials are delicious and hearty. The homemade veggie burgers are tasty too. This lovely restaurant is unfortunately closing in April 2024 so if you want to visit, you better go now!
Location: Rua Washington 98A
Hot tip: This is a great place to have lunch and then walk around Graça and São Vicente.
cais do sodré/santos area
Arkhe – this is probably the fanciest, most innovative vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Lisbon. They even have a Michelin Star to prove it! The food is fresh, healthy, and creative and you absolutely must order dessert! This is the perfect place for celebrations and romantic dates.
Location: Boqueirão Duro 46
Hot tip: If you are in the mood for a stroll after eating here, the boardwalk in between Cais do Sodré and Praça do Comércio is relatively close and so lovely to see the views of the 25 de Abril bridge and Cristo Rei.
Powerplant Lisbon – this is a new vegan restaurant attached to the hot Selina Co-living/working spot. I just went there yesterday and the Katsu sandwich was flavorful and delicious. The ambiance is cool and kind of what you would expect from a co-working venue. I want to go back and try more dishes!
ANJOS AREA – this neighborhood is a hot spot for Vegan restaurants
O Gambuzino – our family loves this restaurant. It’s located in the very unassuming, hip Anjos neighborhood where they have a lovely patio outside to enjoy the offerings. Everything we’ve tried here has been delicious and highly recommended. Our kids’ favorite was the breaded burgers and I enjoyed the burrito bowl.
Location: Rua dos Anjos 5A
Hot tip: It’s pretty close to the Miradouro do Monte Agudo so if you want to work off the calories that you just consumed, a walk up the stairs to the lookout would be enjoyable.
MORE vegan eats in anjos
VeganEats – this restaurant is right in the middle of several vegan restaurants. The daily meal is typically incredibly delicious and affordable. And don’t forget to order a dessert or baked good from their little bakery. You feel well taken care of at this delightful restaurant.
Location: R. Cavaleiro de Oliveira 42
Hot tip: Get dessert! And if you are too full after the meal, get it to go – you won’t be disappointed!
Zona Franca – this is a cultural, recreational, activist and gastronomical organization. They have a daily meal that costs 3€ and soup is 50 cents. How is it so cheap? I ask myself the same question. They use the money made from the food to support the association and activism. It’s truly an awesome community organization that we should all support! They also have entertaining cultural events here so check out their calendar so you can go to one or several.
Location: Rua de Moçambique 42
Hot tip: Make sure you have cash with you as that’s the only form of payment they can accept.

arroios area
Lisbon Vegan Restaurant – this is a buffet-style Indian food restaurant. They serve the food to you for health and safety precautions. Everything I’ve tried here has been delicious and the price is very affordable.
Location: Rua de Arroios Nº177
Hot tip: This restaurant is in Arroios, near the Estefânia area. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Lisbon so when we eat here, I like to walk and explore the area.
vegan junk food
Vegan Junkies – this restaurant has lots of comfort and junk food options. The kids enjoy the burgers here while I like the cauliflower wings. You really cannot go wrong with whatever you order and it feels good knowing that your money is going to support a strong vegan community in Lisbon. They have the best Sunday brunch in town!
Location: R. Luciano Cordeiro 28
Hot tip: Vegan Junkies seem to be behind lots of cool vegan things that are happening in Lisbon, such as Plant Base, Beets Bar, Bone Free, Vegan Food Tours map and more. Kudos to them for growing the vegan community of Lisbon.
A Minha Avó – this used to be a take-away spot, but they now have a brick-and-mortar restaurant. They serve delicious veganized Portuguese food. You need to check it out!
Location: Avenida António Augusto de Aguiar 74B
mouraria area
The Food Temple – this restaurant is incredibly creative and an adorable spot right in the middle of the Mouraria neighborhood. They pride themselves on making fresh, seasonal food.
Location: Beço do Jasmin 18
Hot tip: Make sure you have cash or a Portuguese debit card to pay for your meal and make reservations via social media ahead of time.
principe real area
Os Tibetanos – this is a vegetarian restaurant with decent vegan options. They offer Tibetan and International food.
Hot tip: I love this area!! Near the restaurant, across from the main park, as you walk down the hill a bit, you will find a couple of lovely murals that are perfect for a photo. If you are still hungry, you could get a divine vegan gelato from UAO on the corner and eat it in the garden across the street.
alcÁntara area
The Therapist – this is not a completely vegan/vegetarian restaurant as they serve some fish. They have decent vegan options and are a great choice if you are at the LX Factory. I’ve tried a couple of their vegan dishes and they’ve all been incredibly flavorful and healthy.
Location: R. Rodrigues de Faria 103 (LX Factory)
Hot tip: This is a busy place so it’s good if you eat before or after the popular times. Definitely check out the LX Factory while you are there. And of course, you can visit Fernando at his art studio – 1st floor, loja 14.

saldanha area
Shree Ram – this is a vegan/vegetarian Indian restaurant. The food is incredibly flavorful, colorful and delectable. If you find yourself in this area, you must eat here! Make sure to specify that you are vegan as it’s a vegetarian restaurant and although they have an awesome vegan menu, you want to make sure that what you receive is vegan.
Location: Av. Duque de Ávila 11-13
Hot tip: Shree Ram is located in a mostly residential/business area. It’s quite close to Arco do Cego park so a stroll through the park after eating would be pleasant.
areeiro area
Radhe Krishna – we get food from here more than I’d like to admit. This vegetarian Indian restaurant was walking distance to our apartment when we lived in Areeiro and when we don’t have time or feel like cooking, this is where we order take-away from. The owners are incredibly sweet and the food is flavorful. Our favorites are the vegan curries.
Location: Av. João XXI 5A
Hot tip: Nearby is an adorable neighborhood pocket park (Jardim Fernando Pessa) that you could go to after eating at this restaurant. The kiosk in the park has a lovely ambiance and you can enjoy seeing how typical Portuguese people spend their free time.
NEW SPOT – Giulietta (another gorgeous restaurant by the owners of The Green Affair) – I just ate here last week. It’s a vegan Italian restaurant with delicious daily lunch specials and like The Green Affair, the decor is hip, creative yet super comfy. The plush pink velvet chairs are fabulous and make the experience even better.
another new spot in alvalade
Spill the Beans – I haven’t been here yet, but it comes highly recommended. I’ll report back once I have eaten here. This is a takeaway or request delivery kind of place.
avenidas novas area
My Mother’s Daughter – this restaurant is close to what I like to call the monstrosity of capitalism – El Corte Inglés. They offer inventive plant-based, healthy food that is incredibly colorful and flavorful.
Location: Largo de São Sebastião da Pedreira 49
Hot tip: Explore Parque Eduardo or The Gulbenkian garden before or after eating here. Both spots are within walking distance and are 2 of my favorite parks in Lisbon.
Oasis: this restaurant is right across the street from the Gulbenkian Museum and Garden. They have delectable and affordable daily specials, focusing on Middle Eastern cuisine.
Location: Rua Marquês Sá da Bandeira 76
Hot tip: Get the food to go and take it to the Gulbenkian garden to enjoy nature.
cascais area (farther away, but it’s a must-visit!) VEGAN GUIDE TO LISBON PORTUGAL
If you go to Cascais, a great option for delicious, colorful vegan food is The House of Wonders. They also have a lovely view upstairs. Make sure to ask which dishes are vegan though as they have vegetarian choices too. Cascais also has a recently opened The Green Affair above the huge Auchan across from the train station and Scoop n Dough just opened their doors in the center of Cascais. Yum!

Desserts – vegan guide to lisbon portugal
Scoop n Dough – this place is dangerous and we have eaten here more than I’d like to admit. Whenever people come to visit, this is one place that we always take them. The donuts and ice cream are vegan, always fresh and ingenious. All of the choices are spectacular, but my favorite is the waffle donut sundae and the originals. Their specials are always to die for too!
Locations: R. das Portas de Santo Antão 78
Hot tip: You could walk to the Miradouro do Torel and Campo Martires de Patria afterward. You would have to walk up a lot of stairs, but the views are worth it!
Amorino – this isn’t a 100% vegan spot, but the vegan sorbets are amazing and with 2 locations right in the heart of downtown Lisbon, it’s a really great place to enjoy a refreshing sorbet. My favorite is chocolate and Maia’s favorite is mango and strawberry.
Location: R. Augusta 209 and Largo do Chiado
Hot tip: The Santa Justa lift is just a few minutes from here. It’s a great spot for an iconic photo and just as fun to take the lift and save yourself from walking up hills.
vegan gelato
UAO – this adorable, tiny ice cream shop has mostly vegan options with only a couple with dairy. They make seriously delicious gelato!
Location: R. Dom Pedro V 145, Principe Real
Hot tip: Eat your gelato in the charming park across the street, Jardim de Pedro de Alcântara.
Gelateria Nannarella – I haven’t been here yet, but my vegan friends rave about all of the delicious sorbetto flavors. I will check it out soon and report back!
Vegan shops – vegan guide to lisbon portugal
Green Beans – this shop is a vegan’s dream come true. You can find a large assortment of food that you can’t find in most grocery stores in Lisbon. They also have an awesome assortment of personal care, bags, backpacks, shoes, belts, t-shirts and more. It’s fun to go here just to see what all the latest vegan offerings are. The cafe is now open so get some amazingly-priced sandwiches, pastries or tostas.
Location: R. Chagas 31 (this shop is changing locations in March/April 2024, but will be nearby)
Hot tip: Get items here that you can’t find elsewhere such as vegan cheeses, candies and more while supporting an eco-friendly, happy planet shop!
vegan shoes/clothes
NAE Vegan Shoes – these are Portuguese-made vegan shoes! They also have eco-friendly shoes that are made out of pineapples! How cool is that?! Expensive, but high-quality items that are helping the environment and the vegan cause.
Locations: LX Factory: Rua Rodrigues Faria, 103, espaço 0.01D.10
Chiado: Largo Trindade Coelho nº 17
Couve Shop in Anjos – great selection of socks, bags, purses and shoes!
Location: R. Maria 47A, Anjos
pop up vegan markets – vegan guide to lisbon portugal
Veggie Vibes Market – this is a pop-up market that only happens once in a while at Mercado Santa Clara where the Feira da Ladra takes place. It’s similar to the Sintra Vegan Market but has mostly vegan food and a few artisans with other vegan non-food items, such as pins, flair and clothes. Follow their Instagram to see when the next market will be!
Location: Campo de Santa Clara
Hot tip: Check out the National Pantheon, Igrega de São Vicente de Fora and walk around the Sao Vicente neighborhood
Lisbon Vegan Market – this is the new monthly pop-up vegan market in Lisbon. They have fantastic vendors! It typically happens on the 2nd Sunday of every month. Check their Instagram to find out when the next market is happening.
Location: Fábrica Braço de Prata

- Thermoflask water bottle – like a Hydroflask, but more affordable! We don’t go anywhere without these water bottles full of purified water.

Hey guys, thanks for the great list of places to visit!
I’m wondering if Lisbon is generally vegan friendly? I live in the UK and see Lisbon as my next destination. The UK is well known for being vegan friendly – it is so easy here. Dozens of different varieties of vegan cheese, vegan ham, vegan minced meat, etc. Vegan food are every where in all cafees. How wide the veganism is in Lisbon? For example, vegan food in grocery stores, supermarkets, cafes, etc.
Thank you!
Tara says
Hey there! Lisbon is probably the most vegan-friendly city in all of Portugal. It’s not as awesome as the UK for vegan choices, esp London, but it’s growing quickly. You can find all sorts of vegan choices at the local grocery stores such as Continente and Lidl and of course, at the natural food stores such as Go Natural and Celeiro. You definitely won’t go hungry in Lisbon! Enjoy Lisbon – it’s a magical city! Tara
